SayStash is a free app that keeps everything on your phone. These terms set out what that means for both of us.
The full terms are below. Nothing here replaces them, but this is the gist.
These terms are between you and SilverCodeLabs, the developer of SayStash. They apply to the SayStash Android app, package name com.silvercodelabs.saystash, to the version of SayStash that runs in a web browser, and to the website at saystash.com.
By installing or using SayStash, you agree to them. If you are using SayStash on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for that organisation.
How your information is handled is covered separately in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use SayStash on devices you own or control, for personal or internal business use.

Everything you create in SayStash — your notes, reminders and events — is yours. We claim no ownership of it and no licence over it.
This is not generosity on our part, it is a consequence of how the app is built: your entries never reach us. We run no server, so there is no copy for us to hold, read, analyse or claim rights over. You are responsible for what you choose to put in the app.
SayStash schedules reminders and alerts using Android's own notification and alarm system. When those alerts actually arrive is decided by the operating system, not by us. Battery optimisation, Doze mode, aggressive power-saving on some manufacturers' devices, a phone that is switched off, a permission you have withdrawn, or a system update can all delay an alert or stop it arriving at all.
Do not use SayStash as your only reminder for anything where a missed alert causes real harm. That includes, but is not limited to:
For those, use a method that does not depend on one app on one phone behaving correctly. SayStash is a convenience, and it should be treated as one.
Speech is turned into text by your device's speech recognition service, and SayStash then reads that text to guess whether you meant a note, a reminder or an event, and what date and time you had in mind. Both steps can be wrong — through background noise, accent, an unusual name, or a phrasing the app interprets differently than you intended.
Always check an entry after you create it. Anything you say that is misheard, misdated or filed in the wrong place is a normal limitation of the app, not a fault we can undertake to fix in your particular case.
Your entries are stored on your device and nowhere else. There is no cloud copy, because there is no cloud. That is the point of the app, and it has a direct consequence: if your data goes, we cannot get it back for you.
Data can be lost if you uninstall the app, clear its storage, use a device cleaning tool, reset the device, or lose or damage the phone. Version 1.2 mirrors your entries to a second storage location on the device to survive some of these, but that is a safety net, not a backup.
Use Export in Settings regularly and keep the file somewhere safe. You are responsible for your own backups.
SayStash is currently distributed through Google Play's closed testing programme. If you are using a test build, please take that seriously: pre-release software is more likely to contain bugs, may lose data, may change substantially between versions, and may have features removed.
Do not put anything in a test build that you cannot afford to lose. Testers may leave the programme at any time by opting out in Google Play and uninstalling the app. Feedback you send us about a test build may be used to improve SayStash without any obligation or payment on our part.
Because your entries stay on your own device, there is very little we could police even if we wanted to. Still, you agree not to use SayStash to break the law, to infringe someone else's rights, or to interfere with the app's operation or security.
You also agree not to record another person's voice without their knowledge where doing so would be unlawful where you are. Recording laws differ by country and by state, and complying with them is your responsibility.
SayStash is free. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases and no advertising in the app.
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of SayStash, or the app as a whole, at any time and without notice. We may stop supporting older Android versions. We are not obliged to keep the app available, to keep publishing updates, or to maintain any particular feature.
Should SayStash ever be discontinued, the copy already installed on your device will keep working for as long as your device supports it, and your entries remain yours to export.
The SayStash app, its name, logo, design, interface and underlying code are owned by SilverCodeLabs and protected by copyright and trade mark law. Nothing in these terms transfers any of that to you beyond the licence in section 2.
SayStash includes third-party open source components, each governed by its own licence. Those licences continue to apply to those components and nothing here overrides them.
SayStash is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any alert will be delivered on time or at all.
To the fullest extent the law allows, SilverCodeLabs is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue or opportunity, arising from your use of or inability to use SayStash — including a missed reminder or a misinterpreted entry.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for SayStash (which is nothing) or ten US dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the exclusions above apply to you only as far as that jurisdiction permits, and nothing here limits your statutory consumer rights.
SayStash is distributed through Google Play, and Google's own terms apply to your use of that store alongside these terms. SayStash is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google. Google is not a party to this agreement and has no responsibility for the app or for supporting it.
Android and Google Play are trade marks of Google LLC, referred to here only to describe how SayStash is distributed and how it works.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved between us will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, and you agree to those courts having jurisdiction — except where the law of your own country gives you the right to bring proceedings locally, which these terms do not take away.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
We may update these terms as SayStash changes. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted on the website and in the app's release notes rather than made quietly. Continuing to use SayStash after a change means you accept the revised terms; if you don't accept them, uninstall the app.
